Activator Poles
The Urban Poling ACTIVATOR walking poles were designed by an occupational therapist and gerontologist specifically for rehabilitation and long-term conditions. Their patented design supports strengthening, stability, and off-loading — shifting weight from the hips and knees into the upper body — with safety-focused features throughout. They are recommended by many surgeons, physicians, and therapists as a walking aid for rehab and active living.
The poles use an ergonomic, strapless CoreGrip that supports the wrist in a neutral position and a wide ledge (instead of a strap) that reduces the risk of injury if you fall. A secure button-locking system allows weight-bearing use, bell-shaped tips give more stability than boot-shaped tips, and three anti-vibration features help minimize impact on the joints. A hidden carbide steel tip under the rubber boot adds grip on grass, gravel, sand, or snow. The two-section poles collapse for storage and travel.
Suitable For
- Hip and knee osteoarthritis
- Pre- and post- hip and knee replacement surgery
- Post spinal stenosis surgery
- Conditions that affect balance, such as Parkinson's, MS, and stroke
- Rehabilitation and older-adult / fall-prevention programs
If you have a chronic condition or injury, or currently use a cane, crutches, or walker, ask your physician or rehabilitation professional whether the ACTIVATOR poles are right for you before use.

Walk as you normally would — swing each arm forward from the shoulder as the opposite foot steps forward. Keep a relaxed grip and press down on the ledge with the outside edge of your hand to engage the upper body and core; the off-loading effect comes from that downward pressure. Full setup and technique instructions are in the included user guide and the video below.
